SEMESTER 5 ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO
Project 1 : DESIGN MODIFICATION & DOCUMENTATION
This is an individual project whereby students will employ and demonstrate the knowledge which they have gained in Building Materials, Building Construction 1 and 2 as well as Building Structures. In this project each student is required to utilize a portion of their own design project in previous semester.
Following discussions with the respective tutor, each student should carry out some modifications to the construction systems of the original design to include different, more complex and recent building technology. Finally, a complete documentation including a report and a set of working drawings of the modified design shall be produced.
Project 2 : INDUSTRALISED BUILDING SYSTEM
This is a group project which predominantly relates to the topics of Industrialised Building System (IBS) as well as the materials’ embodied energy. Before embarking on this project students will be exposed with different types and methods of the IBS system and the calculation of embodied energy of different building materials in the classroom.
This project consists of two parts. In the first part, each group is required to conduct a case study of a building which was constructed using IBS to understand the components better. In the second part, the group has to construct a model of a 3-storey apartment building to imitate the actual IBS construction process and to record all the process in a report.
